Infinera's InP PICs to deliver Terabit capacity on SCinet`s network
This is the first time 1Tb/s of transmission capacity will be deployed on SCinet's network, delivered with the Infinera indium phosphide based DTN-X platform
Infinera and Zayo Group, LLC , a provider of fibre-based bandwidth infrastructure solutions, announced the delivery of one terabit per second (1Tb/s) super-channel transmission capacity in support of the SCinet network for Super Computing 2013 (SC13) this week.
This is the first time 1Tb/s of super-channel transmission capacity will be deployed on SCinet's network, delivered with the Infinera DTN-X platform. In addition to the terabit deployment, Zayo will demonstrate the rapid provisioning of 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) services from the show floor in Denver to Chicago.
Zayo offers 100GbE services to high-bandwidth customers including research and education institutions, Internet content providers, and government agencies. Infinera is a supplier of multi-terabit transport capacity for Zayo's 100GbE services.
SCinet is a specialised network created each year to support the Super Computing conference. The high-capacity network, brought together by academia, government, and industry groups, supports revolutionary applications and experiments conducted throughout the conference.
SCinet serves as the platform that will link the Colorado Convention Centre to research and commercial networks around the world. This demonstration marks the first delivery of terabit capacity and the fastest 100GbE provisioning in SCinet history.
"The delivery of terabit service on SCinet demonstrates how fast Zayo can deploy capacity for our customers," says David Dunn, vice president of wavelength product at Zayo. "Through our collaboration with Infinera on this deployment, we are demonstrating our ability to expand our 100GbE services to accommodate the bandwidth-driven needs of our customers."
"This demonstration with Zayo marks a first at SC13 and with SCinet in delivering terabit capacity," notes Bob Jandro, Infinera Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales. "Working with Zayo makes it possible to achieve this milestone for the research and education community."
Infinera and Zayo will participate in SC13, November 18th to 21st at the Colorado Convention Centre in Denver, Colorado.
